The hardest part of learning to speak a language is finding someone to speak it with, often enough, who will not mind your mistakes. StudySes solves that with an AI conversation partner you can talk with in English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Italian, German, Portuguese or Mandarin Chinese, at any hour, for as long as you want. After each exchange you get feedback on what you said. It is not a human tutor and it does not score your pronunciation; it is the daily speaking time most learners never get.

How a conversation session runs
  1. Pick a languageAny of the 9, switch whenever you like
  2. Choose a topic or a goalDaily life, work, travel, or an open chat
  3. Talk with the AI partnerIt replies to what you actually said
  4. Read the feedbackWhat to express differently next time
  5. Go againSame topic with a better answer, or a new one
The loop is deliberately short, so a ten-minute gap in your day is enough for a full round.

How it works

You open a conversation, pick the language and a topic, and start talking; the AI partner answers what you said rather than reading from a script. That is the difference between conversation practice and a lesson: there is no single right answer to reach, only the exchange in front of you. If you go off topic, it follows. If you give a one-word answer, it asks a follow-up, which is exactly what a real person would do.

When an exchange ends, StudySes shows feedback on your answer: where the meaning came through, where a phrase was awkward or wrong, and a cleaner way to say it. You can reply again with the improved version, which is where most of the learning happens. The role-play scenarios use the same partner but put you in a fixed situation, such as checking in at a hotel, when you want a goal rather than an open chat.

Goal setting and progress analytics sit alongside the conversations. You pick what you are working towards, the app tracks your sessions, and you can see whether you are actually talking every day or just intending to.

What it is for

AI conversation practice is for turning passive knowledge into speech, which is the step most courses skip. If you can read a menu in Italian but freeze when the waiter speaks, the gap is not vocabulary; it is the fact that you have produced very few Italian sentences out loud under mild pressure. Daily short conversations close that gap faster than another grammar unit.

It suits three situations especially well:

  • Before a trip or a move, when you need to say ordinary things (directions, orders, small talk) without rehearsing each one in your head first.
  • Alongside a class or a tutor, as the homework nobody sets: the speaking reps between lessons. Our guide on how to practise speaking a language alone shows how to fit it into a week.
  • For English at work, where you already know the words and need the confidence to use them in meetings and interviews; see the learn English hub for the routes that start there.

What it does not do

StudySes does not score your pronunciation or give you an accent rating, and it does not pretend to be a human teacher. The feedback is about what you said: the words, the grammar, the expression. If you want to hear how a word should sound, the spoken English course includes an audio pronunciation guide, but there is no mechanism that listens to you and awards a number. We think that is the honest position: pronunciation scores from software are often confident and wrong, and we would rather not promise one.

It also does not replace speaking to people. The point of the AI partner is to make you ready for real conversations sooner, and less afraid of them, not to stand in for them.

Each column has a job. A tutor is worth every rupee or euro for structure and the problems you cannot hear yourself. An exchange partner gives you real stakes. The AI partner gives you the volume: hundreds of short exchanges a month that nobody else has time for. If you are comparing apps for this, the best AI apps to practise speaking sets out what to look for, and StudySes vs Speak compares the two most common choices directly.

Getting the most from it

Short daily sessions beat one long weekly one, because speaking is a motor skill as much as a knowledge one. Ten minutes a day on one topic, with a second attempt after reading the feedback, is the pattern that works. Keep a note of the phrases the feedback improved, and use the vocabulary flashcards to keep the words you meet fresh, so the next conversation uses them on purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Can you practice speaking a language with AI?

Yes. An AI conversation partner such as StudySes lets you hold a conversation in your target language at any hour, replies to what you actually said, and gives feedback on your answer afterwards. It is the closest thing to a patient speaking partner who never gets tired of the same topic. It does not replace real people; it gets you ready for them.

Is AI conversation practice as good as a tutor?

For volume of speaking time, AI practice usually beats a tutor, because you can talk for ten minutes whenever you have ten minutes. For diagnosing a stubborn pronunciation habit or planning a syllabus, a human tutor is still better. StudySes gives feedback on what you said, not a pronunciation score, so many learners use it for daily reps and a tutor for occasional check-ups.

Which languages can I practise conversation in with StudySes?

StudySes offers an AI conversation partner in nine languages: English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Italian, German, Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese. Each language has its own hub on this site, for example learn Spanish, with the role-plays and topics that suit that language.

Does the AI correct my mistakes?

StudySes gives feedback on your answer after you speak: what was clear, what to express differently, and a better way to say it. It does not stop you mid-sentence, which keeps the conversation flowing, and it does not score pronunciation or accent. If you want a model to copy, the audio pronunciation guide in the lessons is the place for that.

Is StudySes free?

StudySes is free to download on iPhone and Android, with optional in-app purchases for more content. The AI conversation partner is part of the app you install from the store. The store listing for your platform shows the current options; this site never quotes a price because it changes by country and over time.
