StudySes vs Pingo AI

Pingo AI talks in 25+ languages and remembers your goals, but full practice needs Pingo Pro. StudySes adds IELTS Speaking prep and starts free. Which fits?

iPhone & Android Updated Nov 4, 2026
The short answer Pingo AI wins on breadth and personalisation — 25+ languages and a partner that remembers your mistakes and goals; StudySes wins on cost to start and on exam preparation, with IELTS Speaking Parts 1–3 and mock tests that Pingo does not offer. If your language is outside StudySes's nine, Pingo is the obvious pick; if IELTS or a free start matters more, StudySes is.

Pingo AI is a conversation-first language app from Pingo AI, Inc.: you talk to Pingo “as you would a friend”, it corrects you as you go, and it remembers your level, mistakes, words and goals between sessions. It covers more languages than almost any AI tutor on the market. It also reserves unlimited conversations for its Pingo Pro subscription. Compared on 4 Nov 2026 using pingo.ai and Pingo’s App Store and Google Play listings; StudySes facts come from our own product notes.

Both apps are built around the same idea — talk, get corrected, talk again — so the differences are in reach, price and what sits around the conversation.

Where Pingo AI is better

Breadth of languages. Twenty-five-plus target languages against nine is a decisive gap. Pingo’s App Store listing names Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Vietnamese, Hindi, Thai, Hebrew, Greek, Indonesian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Persian and Ukrainian — none of which StudySes teaches. Pingo also says it can teach in 15+ native languages, so a Vietnamese speaker learning Korean gets explanations in Vietnamese. StudySes’s nine are the big ones, but they are only nine.

A partner with a memory. Pingo’s headline claim is that it “remembers your level, mistakes, words, and goals” and builds a learning plan around them, and the App Store release notes for version 5.4 say it “remembers more about you”. Its site also says you can update your goals, level and interests simply by talking to it. StudySes offers progress analytics and goal setting, which is a dashboard rather than a conversation partner that recalls last week’s mistake.

Corrections on pronunciation as well as grammar. Pingo’s store listings claim instant feedback on pronunciation and grammar after each conversation. StudySes gives you feedback on your answer and expression and an audio pronunciation guide to imitate, but it does not score how you sound. One honest footnote on Pingo’s side: pingo.ai itself does not list transcripts or per-conversation vocabulary as a feature; a user testimonial on the site mentions “the transcript and vocab list of every conversation”, and the version 5.4 notes mention improved transcription, so treat that as likely rather than documented.

Where StudySes is better

IELTS Speaking preparation. This is the whole reason the comparison exists for many readers. StudySes carries IELTS Speaking practice for Parts 1, 2 and 3 — the interview, the cue card and the discussion — with sample questions, study plans and full-length mock tests, next to the same AI conversation partner you use for free talk. Pingo’s website and listings do not mention IELTS. A chat about K-dramas is good practice; it is not a timed Part 2.

Free to start, with the conversation included. StudySes is free to download with optional in-app purchases, and the AI conversation partner is part of what you get before paying. Pingo’s App Store listing says a Pingo Pro subscription is required for full conversation practice and personalised learning; its site mentions a free trial without stating how long it lasts or what the free tier includes. If you are not yet sure that talking to an AI suits you, StudySes lets you find out at no cost. Download StudySes for free and run the same conversation in both.

Structured role-plays beside the exam material. StudySes’s role-play scenarios for travel, work and everyday life sit in the same app as the IELTS question banks, so a candidate can rehearse “describe a place you visited” and then check into a hotel in Spanish in one sitting. Pingo’s roleplays — everyday scenarios, debates, professional situations and a custom-roleplay mode — are at least as varied; what Pingo lacks is the exam layer around them.

Lessons that work offline. StudySes lets you download lessons for offline use (conversations still need a connection). Pingo’s pages do not state any offline capability. For a commuter with patchy signal, that difference is practical rather than cosmetic.

Who should pick which

Pick Pingo AI if your target language is outside StudySes’s nine — Russian, Arabic, Dutch, Hindi, Vietnamese and the rest — if you want to be taught in a native language other than English, if a partner that remembers your goals and mistakes is the feature you value most, or if pronunciation correction matters more than exam practice and a subscription is fine.

Pick StudySes if you are preparing for IELTS Speaking, your language is one of English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Italian, German, Portuguese or Mandarin, you want to start free and decide about purchases later, or you want downloadable lessons for offline study.

Use both if you need Pingo’s language and StudySes’s exam prep: an Arabic-speaking IELTS candidate, for instance, might learn English conversation in Pingo with Arabic explanations and drill Parts 1–3 in StudySes. For the full field, including the subscription-only Speak and Duolingo Max’s Video Call, see our guide to the best AI apps to practise speaking.

Neither app offers live human tutors; Pingo’s pages do not mention them and StudySes does not provide them.

StudySes is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the IELTS test owners.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pingo AI free?

Partly. Pingo AI is free to download and its website (read 4 Nov 2026) mentions a free trial, but the App Store listing says a Pingo Pro subscription is required for full conversation practice and personalised learning, and neither page states the trial length or what the free tier includes. StudySes is free to download with optional in-app purchases, so you can hold conversations before paying.

How many languages does Pingo AI support?

Pingo AI's website says it teaches 25+ target languages and supports teaching in 15+ native languages. Its App Store listing names 25, from English, Spanish and Japanese to Hebrew, Persian and Ukrainian. StudySes covers nine — English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Italian, German, Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese — so for Russian, Arabic or Dutch, Pingo is the one that has it.

Does Pingo AI correct your mistakes?

Yes. Pingo's website says it corrects you as you go, and its store listings describe instant feedback on pronunciation and grammar after conversations. StudySes gives feedback on what you said in a conversation — your answer and expression — but does not score pronunciation, so if accent correction is your priority, Pingo's claim is the stronger one.

Does Pingo AI have IELTS Speaking practice?

No. Pingo AI's website and its App Store and Google Play listings, read on 4 Nov 2026, do not mention IELTS. StudySes includes IELTS Speaking practice for Parts 1, 2 and 3, with sample questions, study plans and full-length mock tests, in the same app as its AI conversation partner, which is the main reason an IELTS candidate would choose it over Pingo.

What is the best alternative to Pingo AI?

StudySes is the closest free-to-start alternative if what you are missing is IELTS Speaking preparation or a free conversation partner in one of nine languages. For a structured course with pronunciation feedback, Speak covers seven languages behind a subscription. For a gamified habit with occasional AI calls, Duolingo Max is the premium option. Our round-up of AI speaking apps compares all of them.
